HV Music Notes: 9/25 Edition

HV Music Notes: 9/25 Edition

Valley's Got Talent: 9/29/2016

Don't forget to check out the amazing acts at this year's Talent Show on Thursday, September 29th at 6:30pm! The dress rehearsal for the show is Wednesday, September 28th from 5pm-6:30pm. Thank you so much to the MANY acts that tried out! This was truly a difficult decision and the level of preparation was through the roof this year. Mrs. O'Donnell, Ms. Cosey, Mrs. Koonz and I are so proud of all the students who took the risk to try out and can't wait to celebrate the talents this year at our show! Don't forget- Admission is free, but don't forget to bring a donation for our local food pantry!

Gradebook

Mrs. P's gradebook should be up to date as of today! Please feel free to email her if there seems to be an error. A 0 means the assignment is not in yet. Soon there will be 0s for students who have not come for lessons yet- it just means your child needs to complete his/her first lesson to turn that into full credit. All students need 3 lessons a marking period for full credit. If your child falls under the exemption rules for pull-out lessons, then lessons will reflect full credit. Here are the exemption rules:
1. Students who study with a private teacher outside of school.
2. Students enrolled in both Band and General Music (as Mrs. P is teaching this course, it's now a period that lessons cannot be offered)
3. Students who participate in Band/Independent band AND Jazz Band/Jam Band/OR Percussion Ensemble (See Mrs. P's 13th period schedule)
4. Students enrolled in Band/Independent band AND Music Lab (Music Lab periods are: 1B, 2A, 4/5A, 4/5B*, 6A/B, 6/7A, 11A or B)
5. Students enrolled in Band AND Independent Chorus
6. Students performing school service down in the music department

A Word on Lessons...

If a student is not eligible for the exemptions listed above, then we are running pull out lessons- Students will receive a blue card with Mrs. P's A and B day schedule with available lesson periods. If a student wishes to come down for a lesson, he/she must get the initials of the classroom teacher and show the pass to Mrs. P upon entering the lesson. There are no rotating lesson periods- but it's up to each student to determine which classes are eligible to miss to come to lessons. Students in the past have used periods when there is a substitute in the class to come do a lesson.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. P!

Apps for HV Musicians!

Practicing can be such a fight in many households- akin to making children do chores, or read the number of minutes required for English class. I thought I'd share some apps that your children can use to help enhance their musical experiences and make practicing a positive thing! I did not try all of the apps, but I did explore most of them. The best part.... They're all free!!!

Woodwind Apps:

At the end of this post I will have general apps for all musicians, but these apps are geared toward our woodwind players: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Bassoon.
